Enterobacter sakazaki is a Gram-negative rod-shaped pathogenic bacterium. Enterobacter sakazaki kills 40%~80% of infected infants and has been associated with powdered formula. It can cause bacteraemia, meningitis and necrotising enterocolitis. Enterobacter sakazaki infection has been associated with the use of powdered infant formula, with some strains able to survive in a desiccated state for more than 2 years.
